plymouthstate > At the heart of Auroville lies the Matrimandir (Sanskrit for Temple of the Mother). Intended as a place for silence and concentration for all, there are no religious images, organized meditations, flowers, incense, or religious forms inside.
plymouthstate > Forest manager Aviram Rozin (far left) points out the landscape of Sadhana Forest, where Whitman and his students worked during their stay in Auroville. The goal of Sadhana Forest is to ecologically transform 70 acres of severely eroded land into a vibrant tropical dry evergreen forest. This type of forest is found only in Southern India and Sri Lanka.

plymouthstate > The students toured several organic farms within Auroville and learned about the various farming practices being used to grow a variety of crops.
plymouthstate > The hut Whitman and his students shared during their two weeks in Auroville. The surfaces of the hut were often used to dry clothes after they were washed by hand using soap nuts.
